With compuPHONE, you are limited only by disk space on thenumber of different databases or the number of records perdatabase. compuPHONE operates in three different modes. Mode 1 - The full operating mode that allows full editing of records. Mode 2 - When you select the Query option and Query the database, all records that match your search text are copied to a separate file (QUERY.DAT) after Query is complete, this QUERY.DAT file is loaded. In this mode you may not edit or change a record. Options for sorting the list, printing, dialing, or pasting to and from the clipboard file are available. You may also highlight a record, press Esc, and return to the main database (mode 1) with the highlighted record listed available for editing Mode 3 - compuPHONE also provides a way of listing all of the entries that have been pasted to the clipboard file (CLPBOARD.DAT). From the Files menu, you may select "Load Clipboard". You may Sort, Print, or Dial a number from the clipboard file. (Esc) ------ Selecting this option will exit the phonebook. (M) Setup -- Select this option to setup your modem and printer for correct operation. (D) Dial --- Select this option to dial a highlighted phone number listing. (H) Help --- Select this option to view the help text. Options available while in mode #1 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (F) Files -- Select this option to Open, Create, or Delete a phonebook database. You may also, Load, Copy-to, Copy-from, or Clear the clipboard file (CLPBOARD.DAT). (I) Insert - Select this option to insert a new record. With the highlight bar at "bottom of file", your new record will be added to the end of the database. If the highlight bar is currently on a record, the new record will be inserted just above the highlighted record. (C) Change - Select this option to change or edit a current record. A current record must be highlighted before this option is active. (E) Erase -- Select this option to erase or delete a record. A current record must be highlighted before this option is active. (Q) Query -- Select this option to Query or Search out a record or a group of records. At the Query screen, simply enter any text at any fields that you want to search for then press the F1 key to begin the Query. Pressing F1 with all fields blank will list all records in the Query. All records that match will be copied to the QUERY.DAT file and then listed to screen (Mode 2). (S) Sort --- Select this option if you want to sort the records. You may sort records on any field. Clearing the clipboard file (CLPBOARD.DAT). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Before adding any records to the clipboard file, you maywant to make sure that it currently has no records. Simplyselect the Files option and then the Clear Clipboard option. Copying a record to the clipboard file (CLPBOARD.DAT). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Individual records may be placed into the clipboard fileeither by clicking your RIGHT mouse button on the record orhighlighting a record and then pressing the enter key. Copying a database to the clipboard file (CLPBOARD.DAT). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Load the database you want to place in the clipboard fileusing the Files option and then the Open option. Once youhave the database loaded simply select the Files option andthen select the Copy-To clipboard option. Copying records from the clipboard file (CLPBOARD.DAT). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To copy the contents of the clipboard file into thecurrently loaded database, simply select the Files optionand then the Copy-From Clipboard option. Combining two databases. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You can combine two different databases using the clipboardfile as the tool. Simply load one of the databases throughthe Files/Open options. Copy this database to the clipboardfile with the Files/Copy-To clipboard options. Then open thesecond database using the Files/Open options. At this pointcombine the clipboard contents to the current file using theFiles/Copy-From Clipboard options. Adding records to a database. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Besides the Insert option, you may add records to a databasewhile at the Insert or Change screen. Pressing the Page Downkey will advance you to the next record in the database. Ifyou are at the last record and press the Page Down key, anew blank record will be added to the end if the file. Youmay move Up or Down through the database using the Page Upor Page Down keys. end.
